PROJECTS BEING IMPLEMENTED 

                    (PLANTATION OF THE MUNISING B.P PROJECT)

Rubber Board has been promoting rubber cultivation in Gajapati District of Orissa since 1986. Though the agro-climatic conditions here are not ideal for rubber cultivation, some pockets are available for rubber cultivation, if proper care is taken. Rubber being an eco-friendly crop, providing job opportunities to the rural tribal people of this district, apart from economically viable crop at the harvesting stage. At present 4.68 Hec. Of tapping rubber plantation is available in Gumma and Gosani blocks of Gajapati District. The yield so far recorded is 1350 Kg/Hec./Year. If proper manuring and other plant protection measures are taken, the yield may even go beyond the national average of 1576 kg/hec/year.

            At present, the Rubber Board has a Regional Office, stationed at Parlakhemundi. The Regional Office in association with ITDA and DRDA has started a Rubber Block Plantation  Project in Gumma Block since 1997 to help the tribal beneficiaries of Munising, Badigaon, Sukei, Abarsing and Regeda Villages.

            An area of 40.55 Hec. Has been so far covered under this project . The total financial outlay of the project is 30.80 Lakhs. Out of which the DRDA has given 6.60 Lakhs (21.43%), ITDA has given 4.56 Lakhs (14.80%) and Rubber Board 18.64 Lakhs (63.77%). The tribal beneficiaries are engaged in this plantation to maintain the area. They are paid with wages @ Rs. 30/- per day, after deducting the beneficiary contribution.
