Actions

 

            The actions taken to protect the interest of the consumers in different public utility services are :

 

1.      Water supply:

  

Two time water supply for 30 minutes, sanction of 500 new domestic connections (which was stopped since 1990)  started again from 2001.

 

2.    Electricity:

 

            Follow up for setting up of 132 K.V. line, participating in Bidyut Adalat for settling the consumer disputes, giving suggestion on electricity reformation to High Power Committee (Soven Kanungo) set up by Govt of Orissa., designed & inaugurated a Pass Book for electricity consumers., objection to the price hike tariff of SOTHCO.before OERC.in the year 2000&2001. protest before the OERC against the deficiency of service by SOUTHCO.,appeal before G.M.,SOUTHCO to abstain from power cut of street light of the town for non payment of electricity dues by the municipality, preparing the consumers to file cases before DCDRF for deficiency of service by the local officials for which  a simple proforma was designed and more than 80 cases filed with out  any legal expenses. With the co-ordination of the organisation a separate line is set up  for Phd pump house  to supply un disturbed power for lifting  water form the river bed.

 

3.         Petrol bunk:

  

            Installation of Z-Line delivery pump, insisted for giving amenities to consumer like shed, cemented floorings, lavatory, drinking water, radiatory water, issuing of filter paper to check the quality of the petrol and above all to give free air pressure to the vehicle, and refund of change(accepting actual price).

 

4.         L.P.G. Service:    

 

      Vigilant on issuing new connections, protest not to take extra charges for delivery and to issue cash memo on delivery of cylinder, and a check on stock register when there is a price change.

 

5.            Telephone Service: 

 

            Steps were taken to speed up the issue of telephone directory, insisted on issue of detail call receipt of STD calls, protests made before the authority on the force full collection of  boxes for Dasher and also charges on installation of new connection  by some unscrupulous employees of  the Dept.


6.            Municipality Services:

 

            The organization is on the continuous effort  to maintain the daily market of the municipality. For highlighting the issue meeting was organized among the vendors of the municipality market. A country liquor shop inside the complex was closed under the persuation of the organization . Now a consumer cases is filed  for deficiency of service by polluting due to garbage in different pleases of town by the inactive officials like the Health Officer cum Executive Officer of the municipality. It has organised sensible members to repair road by contributing labor and money.

 

7.            Railway Services: 

 

            The organisation is a member of the consumer committee set up by S.E.railway visakhapatnam division.It is making regular persuation for conversion of broad gauge to the Gunupur- Naupada narrow gauge. It has also suggested a timetable for the small train connecting Naupada and Gunpur with some express train passing through Naupada and that proposal is accepted. Efforts were made to open a Reservation Counter at Paralakhemundi for broad gauge trains.

 

8. Bus Services:

 

            A continuous effort is made for issuance of ticket at correct price, to improve the condition of buses, to restrict the use of  kerosene to ply buses regularity & town services of the night train catching bus from Palasa Ralway Station and to impose on writing  of destination places on the front as well as back side of the bus in Oriya.

 

9.      Irregularities in Dist. Sub Registrar Office, shifting of Town Planning Office from Berhampur:

 

            The organisation took step to highlight the irregularities of the Dist. Sub Registrar Office before the Dist. Collector cum Magistrate to publish the rate and CITIZEN CHARTER for the consumers. The Special Planning Office is shifted after a continuous effort  of the organisation before the directorate of the urban development dept.

 

10.        Protesting the force full collection of Dushara Buxis by various service sectors: 

 

            By making correspondance with the public utility service authority to stop their employees from forceful collection of Dushara Buxis and leaflets were distributed among the public not to encourage and protest such begging .

 

11.      Protecting home through women:

 

             Special efforts were made to have a lady wing of the organisation to educate the rural and urban housewives on different problems as they are the best consumers.Various training camps were conducted for use of LPG .


12.            Pollution Control:

 

            To avoid pollution like sound, traffic, use of kerosene in plying buses etc., and also to maintain ecological harmony, the organisation has started correspondence to the authority of Dist. Hospital, Forest and also to stop non-dispensable items used for full package and medicines.
