MAJOR RIVER SYSTEMS

  1. THE VANSADHARA

Originats in Lanjigada (Kalahandi disitricit) and merges into the Bay of  Bengal at Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh

Warning level : 53.60 Mts.

Danger level  :  54.60

At 54.90 Meter water level Kasinagar NAcC begins to submerse.

Frequent flood occurs due to siltation.

Down stream GOTTA barrage in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh controls flow of flood water in the river. The Assistant Executive Engineer, Irrigation, Paralakhemundi is detailed at the time of flood to monitor discharge of flood water at the barrage with the help of his counter part of the Andhra Pradesh Government so as to reduce intensity of flood.

Flood in Vansadhara drainage system inflicts sever damage to Kasinagar Block and NAC. The State Highway No.4 – Paralakhemundi to Gunupur- running through Kasinagar is usually submerged disrupting the communication.

2.         THE MAHENDRATANYA

Originates from Mahendragiri in the district and passes through Rayagada, Gumma & Gosani block and finally falls in the Vansadhara in Andhra Pradesh territory.

Affects the three Blocks-Gosani,Guma and Rayagada to lesser extent.

Another river Badanadi flows through western part of Mohana block
